A man wearing a brown flat cap and black jacket stands with arms crossed in a modern room in front of a large window front. Next to him is an elegant wooden shelf with open compartments. Outside, you can see a green hilly landscape - a man with a gray beard and brown flat cap stands in front of a wall with architectural drawings. He is wearing a brown vest over a dark long-sleeved shirt, glasses are hanging from his vest. In his hand, he holds a pen and looks side--A close-up shows the hands of a person running a pen across an architectural sketch. The detailed construction plan is on a white table. Glasses can be seen in the background. The black and white photo accentuates concentration and craftsmanship — A man with a gray beard and brown flat cap sits thoughtfully at a table and touches the edge of his cap. He has building plans, glasses and a cup of coffee in front of him. Architectural drawings hang on the wall in the background. Light and shadow accentuate his face--A man rests his hand on a table. He is wearing a brown vest with glasses in his pocket, a dark long-sleeved shirt and a wristwatch. The image section only shows his upper body and accentuates the textures of the clothing and the gesture of the hand--A man wearing a brown flat cap and dark jacket holds a wooden panel against the light and looks at it attentively. In his other hand, he holds another panel and a pen. Behind him is a green hilly landscape, visible through a large window front--A wall full of large-format architectural drawings, sketches and notes attached with adhesive tape. In the foreground, you can see the back of a man wearing a flat cap and a dark jacket, who is turning to the plans. The picture is in black and white and conveys a creative working atmosphere

Passionate Space Whisperer

Senior designer Jürgen Kalcher-Rothenstein has been creating spaces with such a big impact for 10 years that “it almost doesn't matter which furniture goes in.”

On the left, right next to the meeting room on the ground floor, there is Jürgen Karcher-Rothenstein's office in the Josef Göbel building in Fladnitz — his team is right at home in the adjoining room. While the 3D programs are running at their best there, a look at Jürgens' office proves that a creative spirit is still working old-school in the best sense of the word. Sketches and drafts everywhere. Drawn by hand with an eye for detail, but also with love for the big picture. The man who here, bent over his table, is working out rooms on paper somehow fits into the picture. Style: very chic and its cap makes it easy to recognize even from afar. Born in Burgenland, he has more than 30 years of experience. Many successful restaurants or unusual living rooms start here: between design sheets and 3D designs in the team of Jürgen Karcher-Rothenstein.

He sees himself and the work of his team as an extension of the customer. “Our main task is to create a concept first. At Josef Göbel, we are not the typical furniture makers; we try to develop room and layout concepts. “Sounds simple, but, as a look at the design drawings shows, it is only in theory. But the basic work on the room pays off in the end, says the designer: “Once the concept is in place, it doesn't really matter which furniture goes into it. That's when the room has a certain effect.”

Of Coincidences and Family Matters

Keyword effect: The company building in Fladnitz also left it with him. He has known the Boss — Josef — since their time together at HTL. However, the designer from southern Burgenland only came to Josef Göbel — the company — 10 years ago. “When I celebrated my 40th birthday, I thought I would have to do that for once (Josef Göbel, note) View the work. I drove by here, saw the office building and immediately thought to myself, wow, just the area, and then this plant. A few years later, our paths crossed so beautifully that I came here through many happy coincidences — if you believe in coincidences.” That's how he finally swapped Frankfurt for Fladnitz in 2014. For 13 years, he worked internationally for a large shopfitting company in Germany. However, the transition from the Main Metropolis to Teichalm was clearly not difficult for him.

Jürgen Kalcher-Rothenstein now lives nearby. Family reunification also works: Brother Wolfgang — with whom he has worked together time and again since the beginning of his professional career — has been responsible for the other side of the assignments in project management since 2017. The two are working together on projects such as the Styrian pharmacy in Weiz. And the next generation is already setting out to follow in dad's footsteps. Daughter Anna-Sophie is currently completing her apprenticeship as a carpentry technician with Josef Göbel.
